Atul Kochhar, a distinguished twice-Michelin-starred chef, has transformed the way people view and enjoy Indian cuisine. With over 30 years at the forefront of the Indian culinary scene, he has gained international recognition. Born in Jamshedpur, India, Atul began his career with the prestigious Oberoi group of hotels, where he advanced to sous chef, managing a team of 18. As he climbed the ranks, he earned a diploma in Hotel Management and subsequently joined the Hilton group, working under the esteemed chef Bernard Kunig. In 1994, Atul seized the chance to relocate to London, marking a significant turning point in his career.
Drawing inspiration from his Indian roots, Atul skillfully blends his heritage with a passion for British ingredients to craft contemporary Indian dishes. His culinary journey reached a milestone in 2001 when he was awarded his first Michelin star. The following year, he opened his own restaurant, which was honoured with a second Michelin star in 2007.
In 2018, Atul ventured into new independent projects, focusing on the growth of Atul Kochhar Hospitality Group and his catering company, Amod Events. AKHG includes: Kanishka in Mayfair, London; Vaasu and Sindhu in Marlow; Riwaz in Beaconsfield; Masalchi in Wembley Park; Indian Essence in Petts Wood; and Essence in Tunbridge Wells.
